Ash Creek Photo
The Oregon Coast, Cascade Mountains, Columbia Gorge, and Canadian Rockies in Pictures
These Oregon Coast photos were made on Cascade Head, a basalt headland that extends into the Pacific Ocean at the mouth of the Salmon River Estuary. Cascade Head is a Nature Conservancy preserve located a few miles north of Lincoln City. The view from Cascade Head is one of the most dramatic vistas on the Oregon coast, and is well worth the relatively short hike.
The next section of trail passes over a series of five or more bridges, depending on how you count. The trail climbs gradually and contours along the side of Cascade Head. Then it goes into a section that I call the 'tunnel', where dense coastal vegetation encloses the trail. Look at the far side of the bridge for an example.
