Ash Creek Photo
The Oregon Coast, Cascade Mountains, Columbia Gorge, and Canadian Rockies in Pictures
These are a few of my favorite photos from a brief trip to Mount Rainier National Park in late summer, 2008. Although we traveled to Sunrise as well, these photos were all taken near Paradise Inn and the Nisqually River Canyon. When we first arrived at Paradise, the weather was crystal clear. Within a few hours, smoke from several large forest fires hundreds of mile south in Oregon began to drift in. When Mother Nature serves up lemons, it's time to make lemonade.
I photographed this fireweed along the Paradise Loop Road in Mount Rainier National Park just below Paradise Inn at the Paradise River. This is about as "clever" and "witty" as I get as a photographer. I loved the way the shapes of the fireweed echoed the shapes of the Englemann Spruce in the background.
