Doug Gorsline > The schoolhouse at Bodie is sited between the town and the mine. If you walk up to the building and look through the windows, the furniture and the stuff of classrooms is still in place, covered with a layer of fine dust.

Doug Gorsline > These windows, with their decayed roller blinds, look into one of the classrooms in the Bodie schoolhouse. The ghost town of Bodie, California, is preserved in Bodie Historic State Park.

Doug Gorsline > The 2 story building on the right was Bodie's schoolhouse. On the left are the mine buildings. The ghost town of Bodie is preserved in a state of "arrested decay" in California's Bodie State Historic Park.
Doug Gorsline > This photo shows the hill above the ghost town of Bodie where the mine and stamp mill were located. Note the piles of tailings near the top of the hill. I was only at Bodie for an hour or two. I was fortunate to have a good sky and great light. Conditions like this make photography easy.
Doug Gorsline > In the California ghost town of Bodie, many of the old wooden buildings had an extra layer of corrugated metal applied over the top of the wood. In the winter, Bodie is often the coldest US location outside Alaska.
