Doug Gorsline > Columbia Gorge: New Work 2008-9 photo
Doug Gorsline > Wild Baby's Breath and Wild Barley is the name I'm giving this photo, unless someone comes up with a more confident identification of these two plants. This photo was taken in a roadside ditch at the town of Maryhill, Washington, across the street from the visitor center parking lot.
Doug Gorsline > This plant, Xerophyllum tenax, is known as bear grass and indian basket grass. It was also formerly called squaw grass. A member of the lily family, it was widely used by Native Americans for basket-making.
